Although I officially retired from full-time instrumental music teaching at the end of 2024—after 36 wonderful years in the industry—2025 has been anything but quiet!
Here's a look at what I’ve been up to so far this year:
Brisbane Excelsior Band – I had the pleasure of conducting six rehearsals with this outstanding ensemble as we prepared for the Australian National Band Championships.
Rochedale State School – I returned to the classroom, teaching instrumental music two days a week for five weeks.
Band Workshops – I ran engaging and rewarding sessions at both Aviation High School and Queensland Academy of Maths and Science.
Mansfield State High School Jazz Band – I conducted five rehearsals culminating in a fantastic concert performance.
New Commission – I completed a commissioned piece for Kenmore State School to celebrate their 125th anniversary. The piece, titled A Century and Beyond, is written for Level 1.5 concert band.
I have further commitments this year including workshops at Ormiston College, Stuartholme College, also guest conductor for the Shep programme at the Queensland Conservatorium and an invite to adjudicate at the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod.
It’s been a joy to stay connected with the music education community, contribute creatively, and continue sharing my passion for band and ensemble music. Retirement might have changed my title, but certainly not my tempo!
