A Century and Beyond (Hard Copy)

A Century and Beyond was commissioned to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Kenmore State Primary School, Brisbane, Australia—a remarkable milestone for an institution that has played a central role in the education and development of its community since 1900. Over generations, the school has nurtured a vibrant spirit of learning, growth, and camaraderie, and this work is dedicated to honouring that enduring legacy.
 
The music seeks to evoke the essence of school life and the values that Kenmore State Primary upholds. From the joyful energy of students to the dedication of teachers, and from cherished memories to hopeful aspirations, each section of the piece offers a musical reflection on these themes.
 
Structurally, the work is in the form of an overture. It begins with a majestic fanfare, setting a celebratory tone. This leads into a lively Allegro movement driven by a syncopated bass line and rhythmic vitality. A contrasting Adagio follows, offering a moment of reflection through lyrical textures, including a poignant flute solo. The Allegro theme then returns, this time reorchestrated to provide fresh colour and perspective. The piece concludes with a powerful recapitulation of the opening fanfare, bringing the journey to a bold and uplifting close.
This composition stands as both a tribute to the school's rich past and a hopeful gesture toward its continued future—celebrating 125 years of inspiring young minds.
